The calyx is the ring of leaves behind a flower’s petals. It often is left behind attached to the top of the fruit, as in the case of an eggplant, strawberry, tomato, or persimmon.

DH wanted to be an eggplant for Halloween, and needed a stem & leaves. There weren’t any patterns that were at all what I was looking for, so I made one up. There are instructions at the bottom for turning it into a strawberry or tomato cap. If you do it in another color, it can be a flower hat for a fairy!

My original pattern has 4 leaves, and I really wish it had 5, so here’s the pattern re-written for 5 leaves. This (knitted with chunky yarn) fits an average adult’s head (not tightly). For someone smaller, use smaller yarn & needles.

~Please note- the pattern has been adjusted so it won’t look exactly like the photos. It should look better, going further down the head before the leaves start, and having 5 leaves rather than the 4 pictured.
