This unique scarf/stole can be used for all four seasons. It is constructed in a very unusual manner allowing for no seaming and no Kitchener stitches. It’s light enough to be worn as a stole in the summer and wide and long enough to be worn as a scarf in the winter.

This scarf/stole is 20 inches wide and 74 inches long. In the winter, if you want to wear it as a scarf, you can scrunch it as you usually do, and it will be quite warm. However, since it is knit with fingering weight yarn on a size (U.S.) #3 (3.25mm) needle, it is light enough, when worn opened to be a pretty stole to protect you from the spring or fall evening chill. It also work well when going into air conditioning in the summer.

The scarf/stole has an ornate Shetland edging on both sides, allowing you to work with a lovely lace stitch, but still making this a fairly quick project to knit. It is constructed all in a single piece. The focal stitch is almost a somewhat unusual mesh/lace type stitch that comes to us from Scotland.

There are also instructions for an optional crocheted edging, should you want the top and bottom of your FO edged.

It will certainly become one of the most versatile garments in your closet, so you can be sure that it will be worn (and admired) often.

Skill Level: Intermediate - Intermediate + (assuming a basic knowledge of lace knitting).

The scarf/stole was expertly test knitted by Lisa Light who can be contacted at: emeania@gmail.com . If you use the yarn featured in the pattern, you will only need less than three skeins to complete the project. (I used Lorna Shepherd Sock in both Cranberry and Gold Hill.)
