The yarn shop that this was designed for no longer exists.

This project is an introduction to lace knitting, for those who have never done any lace before; or a lovely collection of interesting patterns, for those who have.

The patterns are of the simpler lace variety — only patterned on the right side of the knitting and purled on the wrong side — making this a learning project for those with basic knitting skills.

The lace patterns are all written out in full without charts, so you do not need to be able to read charts to do this rug.

There are 16 square pattern blocks, each with an edge frame of moss stitch, surrounding a central cameo panel of a lace pattern, different for each square. The 16 squares are joined and bordered by a traditional style peaked lace edging, made in 4 pieces and joined at the corners.
