My husband jokes that when I’m knitting, I’m doing “work of national importance.” I designed these mittens for the important work each of us does when we campaign or just plain show up at the polls and vote.

Materials: Red, white, and blue sport weight yarn, approximately 100 yards of each. I used Brown Sheep Nature Spun, but you may want a super wash for mittens with white in them!
One pair #4 needles, one pair #6 needles. This pattern is written flat, so you can use straights or circulars. When working the star pattern, hold the white yarn so it is lower than the blue when stranding—in your left hand. That way the stars will pop more.
#6 double points (for working back and forth on the thumb).
Stitch markers.
Tapestry needle.
