One of my favorite cities along the California coast line is Monterey. My husband is an avid fisherman, and fish collector so to speak, I have 7 fish tanks in my home; and he loves the Monterey Bay Aquarium as much if not more than my children. Whenever we go there we always take a walk along Cannery Row, and the kids have to stop and get their salt water taffy. This hat is designed so that you can use the pattern to create just the brim and wear it as a head band or you can pick up stitches and create the beanie itself.

Finished Measurements: 20” in diameter

Gauge: 17 st and 24 rows = 4” (10cm) Stockinette (swatch was hand washed and laid flat to dry prior to being measured)

Suggested Yarn: 1 skein, Juniper Moon, Moonshine (40% Wool, 40% Alpaca, 20% Silk with approx 197 yards per 100g) Shown in color green (13)

Materials: : 1 US size 7 24” circular needle
1 set size 7 double pointed needles (or size needed to achieve gauge)
1 stitch markers
Cable needle
Darning needle
1 1/2” Button

Notes: The hat is knit flat and in the round; the cabled brim is knit flat with stitches picked up for the body of the hat.
The button for the hat is purely decoration. The button on the headband is functional and you can add more button holes to accommodate more than one person. To keep the integrity of the button holes they should be spaced at least 3 rows apart.
To lengthen or shorten the brim, add more rows or fewer rows as necessary.
