Carmen is the third shawl in my series of patterns inspired by glamorous Hollywood stars of the past. This stole is reminiscent of the lovely Rita Hayworth and her role in Carmen.

It features a wide rectangle shape made up of join-as-you-go motifs with a Spanish Flair. Depending on the yarn selected, Carmen is perfect for a special evening out or a day at the park.

Instructions are provided for three sizes, a wide 21 motif shawl, a 14 motif shawl, and a 7 motif scarf. Details are included for joining the motifs, and there is no sewing involved.

The pattern calls for chains, single, double and treble crochet, clusters, and attaching new yarn. Written instructions, photos, and charts.

MaterialsYarn: Any fingering weight yarn that blocks well. The mesh fabric of this design is very stretchy and requires blocking to open the stitches.

Shawls:
(21 motifs, 65”x 27” blocked) 1100 yds fingering weight.
(14 motifs, 65” x 18” blocked) 800 yds fingering weight.

Scarf:
(7 motifs, 65” x 9” blocked) 500 yds fingering weight

Note: You may use more than one CC. Subtract that CC yardage from the total yardage listed above.

Sample shawls (21 motif) shown used 877 yds of Cascade Heritage sock yarn. Main color (MC), 111 yds contrasting colors (CC). However, one tester used close to 1100 yards of Knit Picks palette. See other project pages for more info.
