Crochet pattern for a carrot, plus a carrot top.

This pattern contains a carefully-designed carrot, with realistically-uneven leaves and an optional accent detail around the top. It also includes a ‘bitten-off’ carrot top that is perfect for making believe that Rudolf or the Easter Bunny has enjoyed a well-earned snack!

This is a quick pattern to work, using only basic stitches. There is no back or front to the finished root, and no visible seam – it looks great from all angles.

For a carrot approximately 12-13cm or 4¾” long you will need:

double-knitting (DK, light worsted weight, Category 3) yarn in approximately the following quantities:

  • Main colour: 28m (31yds)
  • Accent colour: 0.7m (28”)
  • Leaf colour: 4.2m (4½yds)

You will also need:

  • a 3.5mm (US Size E-4) crochet hook
  • a 4.5mm (US Size 7) crochet hook
  • a stuffing material (details are provided in the pattern)
  • a blunt yarn needle
  • sharp scissors

But of course you can easily work a larger or smaller carrot by using heavier or lighter yarn and varying your hook accordingly!

Discounts apply when you buy three of my vegetable patterns together! See my Vegetables Bundle for details.

This pattern is available in both UK and US crochet terminology. Both files will be available for you on purchase and you can choose whichever you prefer to use.

Important features of my crochet patterns:
My crochet patterns include BOTH a detailed ‘tutorial-style’ set of instructions with colour photos, AND a succinct unillustrated pattern using standard crochet conventions.
I have developed this style because I find I like to see a lot of detail the first time I work a pattern, but if I then work the same piece again, I don’t need the pictures, etc, and indeed they can get in the way when I just want a quick reminder of what I’m doing. The PDF is also structured so that the succinct version, with an area for your own notes, is on a single page, making it easy to just take one sheet of paper with you if you have printed it out for quick reference on the move.

This pattern comes with my full support! If you have any difficulties, please contact me! Rest assured I am a real person and I’d love to hear from you. And of course please share pictures of your finished vegetables! :-)

Please see my other patterns for more fruit and vegetables. Discounts are available if you purchase more than two single vegetable patterns.
