Made in 2 pieces and grafted together, the gauge for the pattern is the lace chart used. The individual diamonds are 20 stitches and 20 rows, measuring 3.1 inches long, and 4.5 inches wide.

There are only two sizes because the garment is very stretchy, due to the lace stitch, and is designed to be worn open with a gap in front (or with a belt if it suits your fancy!)

You will need 2 of which ever sized circular needle you use, as the pieces must be on needles and not waste yarn in order to be grafted together at the correct tension. I recommend circular needles because they will distribute the weight more evenly as the piece gets longer, and will help keep it from becoming lopsided.

You can use pretty much any yarn that knits up to the correct gauge, but I highly recommend something with natural fibers, so that it blocks nicely and holds its shape over time.
