My design process begins with inspiration: sometimes it starts with a feeling or an object or a view, sometimes it starts with a color or texture or yarn, and sometimes—as in the case of this pattern—it starts with a stitch. I was playing around with this swirly stitch and swatching in fingering and worsted weights when I realized that it was pretty but needed something extra…it needed to be BIG! The harmonious colors and gorgeous speckles of NanoStitch Lab yarns immediately sprang to mind and I was happy to learn they had a base that would be perfect: Big Bang! Big yarn, big color, and a big shape all give the cassiopeia cowl a big impact.

Sizes
Small cowl: 25” circumference x 11½” deep (60 x 30 cm)
Large cowl: 40” circ x 11½” d (105 x 20 cm)
Loop: 50” circ x 8½” d (125 x 25 cm)

Yarn
Bulky weight, 300 (450, 450) yds total: 150 (225, 225) yds in each of 2 colors
Shown in NanoStitch Lab Big Bang Super Bulky (76yds/100g)
Large cowl: Gravity + Dark Matter, 3 skeins each;
Small cowl: Refraction + Oxygen; 2 skeins each.

Gauge and Needles
11½ sts & 16 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in pattern after blocking using US 11-17 (8-11 mm) or size needed to get gauge.
Gauge is not critical for this project but a different gauge will yield a different size and have different yarn requirements.

Notions
