I designed this cat bed after visiting a mobile Humane Society van and noticing a lot of the cats were curled up in their (clean) litter boxes instead of lying on blankets. Their litter boxes offered edges to press against—which I know my cats like—and made them feel safer. I went home and created this litter box shaped cat bed, complete with sturdy walls to press against. The wall structure is made by crocheting through the front and back posts and requires no stuffing. And since the bed also uses 100% acrylic yarns (the cheaper and tougher the better), it’s easy to throw in the wash and can easily be used at home or donated to a shelter. It’s also a good stash buster!

  • The bed I made is 14” x 17”, but the pattern can easily be adjusted for any desired size.

  • Techniques used: holding three strands together, double crochet, double crochet decrease, through the front loops, and through the front/back posts.

  • Since this bed is made by holding three strands together throughout, you will need three skeins of yarn.
