I decided to try my hand at hand-dyeing yarn and wanted to try using plants from my garden. I purchased undyed “Bare” yarn and dyed it in my kitchen (after mordanting) with the wildflower “Celandine”. The resulting colour reminded me of a French straw basket and that was how the pattern was born.

Knitted mainly in the round, apart from the base, on a circular needle with 2 strands of yarn held together. It is a simple pattern and one that could be made in a variety of natural or pastel shades.

I finished it off with wicker handles but you could use leather ones or bamboo.

Measurements when felted:
W: 8” (20 cm) at base,
W: 17” (43cm) at the top
H: 10“ (25 cm)
