This fitted hat has a double-thick brim for extra warmth and staying power, but the lace ribbing adds a touch of femininity. The spiral pattern up the crown features clever decreases.

Yarn Swans Island Natural Colors Merino Fingering (100% organic merino wool; 525 yd 480 m/100 g):
• charcoal, 1 skein
Gauge 28 sts and 48 rnds = 4″ in Lace Rib patt on smaller needle; 31 sts and 41 rnds = 4″ in Twisted Spiral patt on larger needle
Tools
• Size 1½ (2.5 mm): two 16″ circular (cir) needles
• Size 3 (3.25 mm): 16″ cir needle and set of double-pointed needles (dpn)
