The Chalkduster hat arose from the love of texture and combining different yarns. I wanted to create a pattern, not only with colors, but with different textures too. By knitting with 2 yarns together in only certain sections of the hat, I was able to create a graphic design with texture and halo for days.

The technique to knit with 2 yarns at once during certain parts of the pattern was new to me. At first it felt a little cumbersome and I wasn’t sure it was going to work. But then I thought about it like more traditional colorwork. I moved the mohair yarn to my other hand to knit like I do with colorwork, and everything fell into place! I’ve created a tutorial to help with this technique. Once you figure out what feels the easiest to you, the body of the hat is all knit, so it flies by!
