Chameleons change their color to adapt to their environment. I was always fascinated by this aspect of this incredible lizard. As I was knitting this simple design, I found that it looked so different depending on the yarn that I chose. This simple shawl is a great for a beginner or as a palate cleanser — a break from more complex knitting. This simple asymmetric shawl’s easy to memorize stitch pattern provides a wonderful meditative knit and a chance to breathe.

This pattern is more of a recipe. You can add or subtract yardage. Use multiple yarns or a single color. Create your own unique color palate.

Your shawl can take on a totally different look by the yarn you chose. A self-striping yarn is fun and easy. You can mix it up by choosing a color to pop against one or two other yarns. Gradient packs, minis, or leftover yarn change the Chameleon into a striped wonder. Instructions for the variations can be found at the end of the pattern.

This pattern is adaptable for any weight yarn. You will want to change the needle size when using fingering, worsted or bulky weights. Your yarn yardage can also vary when changing yarn weight.
