Did you ever read the book Charlotte’s Web by E B Webb as a child? I did. In fact, I think I’ve read it more than once. I used to do that when I was a child. Maybe your child is reading the book now. I’m actually jealous of them! It’s a lovely gentle story about a farmyard and while the ending wasn’t perfectly happy, it was a good one. I’d recommend you encourage your children read it if they haven’t!

A few weeks ago, a lady came to me and asked me to make her a spider as table decoration for her wedding reception. She’s basing each table on their favourite books and one was Charlotte’s Web. I thought I’d tell you how I did it in case you wanted to make one yourself.

What you’ll need

Stylecraft Special 4ply in colours 1002 Black and 1001 White. You’ll only need a little bit of the white.
Some white and purple embroidery thread for the face.
3mm crochet hook.
5mm crochet hook.
2.5mm short circular needles.
A locking stitch marker.
A wool needle AND a finer embroidery needle. (I used a number 18 cross stitch needle because it has a larger eye and a sharper point.)
Scissors.
8 bendy straws.
Toy stuffing.
A 12″ embroidery hoop.
2 15″x15″ pieces of white fabric. One with a satin sheen, one plain. I used curtain lining for the plain fabric.
Super glue.

Skills Needed

Basic amigurmi skills.
I cord knitting.
Simple embroidery.
