Knit a classic hat with a simple chevron motif! Yarn choices can make the oattern subtle or striking. The lining, though technically optional, makes this beanie reversible and warmer, and give the finished project a satisfying sturdiness.
The pattern features three sizes—S(M, L)—with large probably being the fits-most-adults size, especially when you make it with the liner, as shown.
The wide chevron motif works well with tonal yarns for an understated look. It’ll also show off a self-striping yarn or a collection of soft scraps. Any soft lightweight sock yarn works for this hat—the sample uses both I listed, but you definitely don’t have to have them.
Materials:
- 75-100g of Cascade Heritage Wave, Uneek Yarn Sock, or another soft wool sock yarn with an interested dye pattern
- 1 16” circular needle in US 2/2.75mm, or size needed for gauge
- 1 16” circular needle in US3/3.25mm, or one size up from smaller circular needle
- 1 set of DPNs in large gauge
- 1 16” circular needle in US1/2.25mm, or one size down from the size needed for gauge—this can be substituted with a DPN; it’s only used to transfer stitches while you work the hem.

- Crochet hook, size B/2.25mm or size suited to yarn, for provisional crochet cast-on
- tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- removable stitch markers
