Chiaro Scuro is Italian for light-dark, or more precisely, clear-obscure. And light to dark is what this pullover is all about, with a beautiful ombre effect resulting from a very simple geometric stranded pattern.

Knitted from the top down in the round. Short rows shape the neckline, which is later trimmed with I-cord . Hem and cuffs are ribbed.

finished sweater measurements at full chest:
32 (34.5, 37.5, 40) (42.5, 45.5, 48) (50.5, 53.5, 56)“
2-8” positive ease recommended.

Needles and notions:
Needles size 5 US (3.75 mm) circular needles (circs) for gauge, size 4 (3.5 mm) circs for cuff ribbing, double- pointed needles (dpn’s) size 4 US (3.5) for attached neckline I-cord; tapestry needle, stitch markers, scrap yarn.

Yarn:
Sunday Knits 3 ply (sport weight) yarns, including Brigadoon, Nirvana, Eden or Angelic (about 245 yds per 50-gm skein or 100 yd per 20 g mini skein),
or
Spincycle Dyed in the Wool and/or Nocturne (200 yd per skein),

1130 (1240, 1340, 1460) (1530, 1670, 1760) (1850, 1990, 2130) yds total.

For my Sunday Knits sample, I used a variety of blends in 17 colors, with yardages ranging from 275 yds for the final bottom color to 50 yds for the upper-yoke colors. Most colors used about 100 yds.

For my Spincycle sample, I used 8 skeins of Ghost Ranch.

Gauge:
24 sts and 32 rows = 4” in stranded stockinette stitch using size 5 needles.

Techniques used:
Stranded knitting, short rows, provisional cast-on, sewn bind-off.
