This adorable knitted owl hat is a great way to use up leftover yarn. I created this design for my 20 month-old daughter to wear for Halloween, and she gets compliments every time she wears it. This pattern can fit children aged 18 months to 10 years; a growth ring along the bottom of this stretchy hat can be folded down to keep your kids warm for multiple winters. These step-by-step directions include pictures.

You will need:
• 1/3 skein of dark yarn (any kind) for owl body / hat
• one small ball of light yarn (any kind but chunky) for eyes
• yarn scraps in two contrasting colors for beak and pupils

• 2 size 10 needles (for a snugger fit for children 18 month – 3 years, use size 7 needles)
• 4 double pointed needles, size 5**
• yarn sewing needle
• bow barrette or ribbon for girl owl (optional)
