This pattern can be used to make either a chimpanzee or an orangutan depending on the yarn colours that you choose to use. The adult chimpanzee / orangutan’s body also has an internal pocket which contains a baby inside!

You can use normal yarn (I used James C Brett Aztec aran weight yarn) and then brush it to make it fluffy, or (if you fancy a challenge) you can include a strand of eyelash yarn too – there are more details on this below.

This pattern is 22 pages long and it includes contains loads of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms.

You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used James C Brett Aztec aran weight yarn and my finished project measures approximately 21.5cm tall.

If you are making a chimpanzee, you will need the following colours:
Dark brown (approx. 186m).
Beige (approx. 76.5m).
Black (approx. 3.5m).

If you are making an orangutan, you will need the following colours:
Orange (approx. 186m).
Dark brown (approx. 66m).
Beige (approx. 10.5m).
Black (approx. 3.5m).

The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide.

Please note : You can also use an eyelash yarn if you want to make you project really fluffy - to do this you will need to hold a strand of eyelash yarn together with the normal yarn on the relevant sections. I used King Cole Moments in either ‘ginger’ or ‘koala’.
This yarn is much harder to work with and so I would strongly recommend just using normal yarn if this is your first time using this pattern!
If you choose to include a strand of eyelash yarn, you will need approx 207m of it in either brown or orange. You will also need slightly more of your normal main colour yarn (the 186m of dark brown or orange described above, increases to 230m). My completed version measured approximately 24.5cm tall.

You will also need:
A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.

Toy stuffing.

Black finer yarn or embroidery thread for adding the baby’s facial details.

A pair of 9mm black eyes.

A hard brush to make your work fluffy (I use a metal pet slicker brush).

Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and a stitch marker.

You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Feel free to contact me with any questions as I am more than happy to help. Thank you.
