Since early childhood I have loved rabbits, so it was inevitable that I would create other projects with these motifs from my Chocolate Bunny Socks. Of course, your bunnies don’t have to be chocolate, this is a great design to be creative and have fun experimenting with colors!

Method:
This stranded colorwork cowl is knit in the round from the bottom up. Starting with a rolled hem and corrugated ribbing it features motifs of cute bunnies, hearts, and butterflies. It can be worked in two (or more) contrasting colors, cowl pictured uses three colors.

Please note the colorwork design in this pattern is charted not written out. You need to be prepared to read and work from charts in order to enjoy knitting this design.

Size:
This pattern is written in 4 suggested sizes based on circumference, but the circumference is easily adjusted to any length. Notes for doing this are included. It is also charted in two heights, A and B. Follow Chart A instructions to give a shorter cowl suitable for children, or Chart B instructions for a deeper cowl (you can make any size circumference in either height).

All instructions that differ depending on the size you are knitting are color coded and indicated with parentheses like this: XS (S, M, L).

Size - Finished Circumference - Finished Height (A) - Finished Height (B)
XS - 16⅝” (42 cm) - 6½” (16.5 cm) - 10” (25.5 cm)
S - 22” (56 cm) - 6½” (16.5 cm) - 10” - (25.5 cm)
M - 27⅝” (70 cm) - 6½” (16.5 cm) - 10” (25.5 cm)
L - 55⅜” (141 cm) - 6½” (16.5 cm) - 10” (25.5 cm)

Yarn:
This pattern works well with two (or more) contrasting colors of DK yarn. You can use any DK yarn that you like and with which you can get tension/ gauge.

Please note I do not recommend using yarns with a high cotton content as cotton doesn’t stretch as much as other fibers and this will affect the fit and drape of your cowl.

This is a great pattern to play with color and use any leftovers lurking in your stash. The amounts of each color required will depend on which size you are knitting, how many colors you pick, and where you choose to use them in the cowl. As a guide for the cowl pictured (size S longer height in three colors) I used the following quantities of West Yorkshire Spinners ColourLab DK:

MC – 705 Aqua Green approx. 110 metres (120 yards)
CC1 – 717 Thistle Purple approx. 75 metres (82 yards)
CC2 – 491 Hazel Brown approx. 60 metres (66 yards)
