This pattern is for two Christmas costumes for the Whimsy doll in “Playful Little Knits.” It does not include the pattern for the doll, which is in the book.

The angel costume transforms the doll into a darling tree topper. This design was inspired by the book “The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree,” which is about a little Appalachian girl whose father is away in World War I. The little girl is given the angel from the top of the Christmas tree as her gift, and the family uses it every Christmas for decades. You can surprise a little girl with this gift, along with a copy of “The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree” and some knitted doll clothes from “Playful Little Knits.”

The elf doll is a perfect stocking stuffer, peeking out of the top of a stocking on Christmas morning.
