Malaria Fundraising Event 1st - 31st December 2013
50% of all sales of my Christmas Bunting pattern l
for December 2013 will be donated to
The Christy Gallagher Memorial Malaria Fund
Martin and Mary Gallagher, my brother and sister in law, lost their son Christopher (23) to malaria in 2006 while backpacking in Asia!
In memory of Christy, his parents, Martin and Mary Gallagher, established the ‘Christy Gallagher Memorial Malaria Fund’ with Children in Crossfire to help prevent the deadly disease from claiming the lives of some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable children.
Donations made to the ‘Malaria Fund’ are used by Children in Crossfire in 3 regions of Tanzania to distribute mosquito nets to vulnerable families with children under the age of 5, as well as, funding community awareness workshops about the prevention and treatment of malaria .
Each year in Tanzania an estimated 60,000 people die of malaria, and of these approximately 80% are children under the age of 5 years.
They have raised over £40,000 in that time and continue to organise events to raise awareness of malaria.**
If you plan on knitting this pattern or it is in your queue, buy it during December or gift it to a ravelry friend and help support the fight against Malaria.
Thank you in advance
about the pattern
This pretty Christmas Bunting offers a complete colour workshop - a great opportunity to practice colour-work techniques such as fair isle/stranded knitting; intarsia; stripes and Swiss darning. Instructions for beaded decoration are also included.
The pattern is both charted and written and there are additional instructions for techniques such as cable cast on; right and left slanting M1 increase; knitting with beads; Swiss darning; stranded knitting and intarsia.
One ball of each of 3 colours yarn will make about 8-10 pennants.
if using a different weight of yarn from your stash, just remember to knit with one or two size smaller needles for a nice firm fabric.
