The pattern includes two variations of this design:

  1. Rectangular 22x40-teeth Shawl

Note: To clarify the terminology, 22 by 40 means that the shawl border is 22 teeth, for the short side and 40 teeth, for the long side.

  1. Square Shawl which, in turn, can be realized in one of two sizes: 22x22 or 34x34 teeth.

Orenburg traditional knitting technique is used. Orenburg shawls are mostly worked on garter stitch ground, and these scarves are no exception.

Garter stitch is produced by knitting every row.

Yardage:

22x40 Rectangular Shawl – about 1800 m 1970 yds.

22x22 Square Shawl – about 1000 m 1100 yds.

34x34 Square Shawl – about 2300 m 2515 yds.

Yarn requirements:

You will need any lace or gossamer/cobweb weight natural fiber yarn: wool, alpaca, down hair, linen, cashmere; from 800 m 875 yds or more per 100 g.

The thicker your needles and yarn, the larger your shawl will be.

Use size 1.5 mm (US 000) circular needles or long double pointed needles with endcap, or your favorite size which gives the desired fabric.

You will also need a waste yarn, stitch markers (if used), and a tapestry needle.

Beading is not included, but if you want to decorate your shawl with beads, it’s up to you.
