The CHRYSALIS WRAP is the beautiful result a knitter creates by completing the gkgreen designs 2018 Classic Murder Mystery Knit-Along (MMKAL): Once upon a Train -- The Case of the Curious Knitter. Five intriguing stitch patterns and two creatively dyed yarns combine into one cunning design that embodies the very definition of chrysalis in the sense of a preparatory or transitional state.

This wrap is constructed seamlessly and features a unique shape (one which can be worn in many different ways), as well as fully reversible sections (so that there is no actual “wrong” side), along with body-conscious proportional design (to flatter all body types and permit the wearer to emphasize different areas of the figure as desired). The design is somewhat forgiving of any knitter gauge variation, should it occur, and blocking -- while strongly recommended -- is not essential if finished appearance is acceptable to the individual knitter.

The actual directions for knitting the CHRYSALIS WRAP are presented as five chapters of a golden-age detective novel set on a train. Each chapter uses for its narrative an interview with a different suspect of a type drawn from the somewhat formulaic “whodunit” fiction of that period. This is followed by a suspect-inspired stitch pattern to be worked. A final section presents finishing information.

On 01 March 2018, the first of five chapters of the pattern was distributed via Ravelry Library PDF download. Two weeks elapse between the release of chapters. A full (complete) pattern was finally provided, including previously unreleased pictures of finished pieces, at the conclusion of the CHRYSALIS WRAP classic murder mystery knit-along on 10 May 2018.

Note on Release: Length of full (complete) pattern file -- now released as downloadable PDF -- is 59 pages.

There is an active dedicated Ravelry.com group (exclusively for MMKAL participants, although some read-only pages are public -- Go take a look!) that supports information exchange for the CHRYSALIS WRAP classic murder mystery knit-along.

Note on Gauge: Overall average (across five different stitch patterns).

Note on Yarn: Two (2) skeins (each 462 yds/100 g; total 924 yds/200 g) of Death By Yarn (DBY) sock/fingering-weight 75%-superwash merino/25%-nylon yarn, in knitter’s desired colorways; one skein with long repeats of four (4) different solid colors, other skein speckled in two of those colors over contrasting fifth solid color. As used and pictured throughout, DBY four-color yarn is green, blue, gold, and purple, and DBY speckled yarn is green and blue over white.
