I have always thought that norwegian selbu look a bit like church windows, This was the inspiration for these mittens. They are made like traditional norwegian selbu with a ribbed cuff and gusseted thumb.
As church windows are full of symbolism I have tried to add this to the mittens, the thumb gusset has a small cross below a rosary chain. The bottom window pane is replaceable, you can choose the design you want, a nativity scene, an Easter scene, an angel, a large Rose of Sharon medallion, or a cross and infinity ring surrounded by a rosary. The rosary and Rose of Sharon designs are adapted from old traditional selbu charts.
Sizes
Small mittens are knit at a gauge of 32sts-4ins
Medium mittens are knit at a gauge of 30sts-4ins
Large mittens are knit at a gauge of 28sts-4ins
The mittens work best with a self shading yarn or a solid colour.
