These fabulous fingerless mitts are a dream to knit and the perfect blank canvas to customise into something unique.

Add appliqués, duplicate stitching or use self-striping yarn for something special without any effort.

Easy and speedy to make, with minimal shaping. Adaptable to different lengths. Perfect to wear alone or layer over traditional gloves for extra cosiness. Unisex with no ‘left or right’ to worry over, stretchy and comfortable.

You may never need another mitt pattern again…

Sizing: One size will fit most adult hands. Stocking stitch allows for a good amount of stretchiness that springs back into shape. If a smaller size is required, follow the same pattern instructions using a smaller set of needles.

Method
Circus mitts are knitted flat, back and forth in rows, from the cuff upwards and turned after every row. A subtle amount of easy shaping is worked around the thumb area for a comfortable fit. Stitches for the thumb are placed aside whilst the upper part is completed. The thumb is finished using the magic loop method or on double pointed needles. (This is potentially the only ‘fiddly’ part of the pattern, but involves very few rows.)
The side seam is sewn using the mattress stitch. Ends are woven in and then all the ‘fun of the Circus’ can begin.

Links, Ideas and techniques for personalising your mitts are included in the pattern, but the sky really is only limited by your imagination.
