Streets filled with sunlight - that’s the first association that comes to mind when I think of San Francisco. This design is a quintessence of the city the way I feel it, after hundreds of miles walked along its beautiful avenues.

With a simple straight silhouette and a nice amount of positive ease, the sweater makes a comfortable piece for everyday wear. It definitely has a flare of boho thanks to the wide sleeves and an embellishment of bobbles and cable ribbing. The various textures reminisce of gorgeous exteriors of Victorian houses decorated with wooden lace and make knitting this pullover entertaining and playful.

Needles and Gauge:

  • 21 sts and 32 rows in 4” / 10cm in Stockinette Stitch, blocked
  • swatch to determine your needle size that helps to fit the gauge; needle size below is a suggestion
  • US 6 / 4mm for the ribbing
  • US 7 / 4.5mm for the body
  • For the body: circular needles on 32” / 80cm cable; for the sleeves: circular needles for magic loop method or a set of dpns.

Construction:

  • The sweater is knit from the bottom up in the round. The hem and cuffs are decorated with cable ribbing.
  • I used the magic loop method for knitting 2 sleeves at a time, but you can knit them one by one as well. Use magic loop, a set of dpns, or any other desired method for knitting small circles.
  • Once both the body and the sleeves are ready, they are joined and from this point the sweater is worked in one piece.
  • The top part is completed as a round yoke.
  • The neck shaping is performed with the short rows technique. This part of a sweater is knit back and forth.
  • The neckline is finished off with a folded ribbing.
