36 stitches and 46 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette
US 1 - 2.25 mm
525 - 700 yards (480 - 640 m)

The pattern calls for the same gauge in stockinette stitch as for the pattern stitch on the leg of the sock. I found the pattern stitch was somewhat tighter than stockinette.
