The original patter mis-copied MJ’s original instructions for c2b. It SHOULD read (and the current version now reads):

c2b slide 1 stitch onto a CAN, hold it in back, knit the next stitch, purl the stitch from the CAN
___
As knitted this cowl is 18-20 inches around (depending on how you block it) and 8.5” tall.

Also: Great thing about a short cowl…when your ears need a quick warm up…just pull it up like a head band. Also great for us long haired girls that wear ponytails/updos that are not hat friendly!

I L-L-Love MJ Kim’s “Claudia” Hat and I made some Claudia Mitts and still had yarn left so I figured a cute little cowl would complete the set!

Thanks to MJ since most of the instruction comes directly from her lovely hat pattern! In theory, you cast on more stitches then with the hat then work her trellis pattern, work the rib for the desired length then work the trellis backward. SIMPLE!!
