If anyone asks, you escaped your last velociraptor encounter with nothing but a run in your stockings to show for it.

Inspired by the mossy jungle tones in the Stone Temple colorway, this sock pattern employs dropped stitches to create a subtle rift across the right foot. It’s a great way to show off hand-dyed sock yarn-- visually, it’s about the closest you can get to wearing the unworked hank on your feet!

The pattern features written instructions for the dropped-stitch rift sock (pictured on the right foot), but also includes instructions for a plain sock (pictured on the left foot). Both are knit toe-up, and are suitable for one- or two-at-a-time construction on either double-pointed needles or long circulars.

Techniques and stitches used include:

  • Invisible toe-up cast-on (such as Judy’s Magic Cast-On or Turkish Cast-On)
  • Increases (yarn overs, m1r and m1l)
  • Decreases (k2tog, p2tog, ssk)
  • Mid-round cast-on (such as Cable Cast-On)
  • Loose bind-off (such as Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off)

Recommended jungle-themed viewing to set the mood while you work:

  • Jurassic Park
  • LOST Season 1
  • George of the Jungle
  • Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
