From the Stitch Description: Because of the slant of the decreases, the Cloverleaf Eyelet in vertical arrangement can be made to resemble a dainty little cable done in openwork. The cable pattern also makes a very attractive fancy ribbing when worked on a multiple of 5 sts plus 2 -- i.e., three cable sts with 2 purl sts in between.
