Coalport Hat is a classic unisex toque for cold and wet days outdoors. Named after the fine porcelain of the Victorian Era, when blue and white patterns came into vogue and flourished, this hat has traditional Fair Isle and Selbu colourwork motifs housed in modern colourwork blocking. I am particularly fond of the snowflake/rose motif that emulates the patterning in the bottom of the teacup and recalls the Greek Mataki or “Blue Eye,” a symbol meant to bring protection and good luck to the wearer.
Coalport Hat, available in sizes S and L, is knit bottom up in 2 contrasting colours. A repeating colourwork chart with straightforward decreases at the crown is sure to please beginner and experienced knitters alike.
Sample is shown in Festivus 8.0 Fingering in Ornament (Blue) and Tissue (White).
