COCCINEA
Coccinea is a triangular shawl knit sideways, with a wide oak and acorn branch running along the side. Simple knit stitches and cable stitches against a purl backgrund, give the fabric a beautiful embossed texture causing the branches to really pop out. Combined with garter stitch along the body of the shawl, it creates a fluffy, soft and delicate shawl that will keep you cozied up through the winter.

The shawl starts out with only a few stitches, that quickly increase by one stitch on each wrong-side row as the branch builds up. As the border reaches its full width, you start adding garter stitches instead. When the charts are all finished, the pattern ends with a couple of rows of garter stitch along the full width of the shawl, before the bind-off. To make the edges nicer, always slip the first stitch of each wrong-side round purlwise with the yarn in front, and knit the last stitch of each right-side round through the back loop. The size of the shawl is easily adaptable by adding extra chart repeats.

Coccinea is adapted for a 4ply (fingering) yarn from Woolly Mammoth Fibres, a small hand dyeing and spinning studio based on the North Coast of Northern Ireland. You can find all of Emma’s lovely yarns on her website: https://www.woollymammothfibrecompany.com/
