Morning coffee time is my favourite time of the day, and I am a big fan of my French press for this purpose. The only downside is the fact that the coffee cools if you take your time savouring your liquid gold. One stylish solution is the cozy!

This cozy is made as a simple rectangle with a tab for fastening to a button. It uses three colours of DK weight 100% superwash merino. Basic stitches are used; however, the colours are changed each row giving the fabric a woven appearance. The beauty of this technique is that there are no ends to weave in as you change colours because you are carrying the yarn up the side of the piece as you work.

This pattern is part of a trio of patterns published in Digits and Threads online magazine. It is available to studio members/subscribers. The knit version was designed by Sarah Thornton, and the quilt version was designed by Liz Thornton. All are beginner friendly and aimed at expanding one’s craft skills!

Each pattern offers two variants, a French press cozy to fit a standard 4-cup French press and a square(ish) teapot mat. Tips are also included for adjusting sizes.
