Growing up, I saw involved grandpas in my friends’ families, in books, on tv…but neither of my grandfathers were a part of my life. I decided that if I didn’t have a grandpa to pass down wisdom, life stories, or old man cardigans- I would make my own.

This is my grandpa cardigan, and your grandpa cardigan- I think the kind of grandparent who would have owned it would be gentle and kind, a lover books, resistant and stubborn at times. They’d smell like old books, oak leaves, and fresh cotton. They’d tell a lot of bad jokes, be slightly stuck in the past, and love the outdoors. Maybe they would love horses and dogs, spending too much time on yard care. They would be patient and chuckle often, and he would be proud of me--and you.* This cardigan is a hug for you, for all of us.
