A “huswife” was a sewing kit, which a soldier such as Colonel
Fitzwilliam would carry to mend his uniform while on campaign. A pair of pockets folded in half and tied closed carried needles, thread, and anything else he might need to keep himself neat. This monogrammed huswife has space to carry knitting notions. Fair Isle stripes recall classic nineteenth-century textiles, when boiled (felted) wool was a common feature of soldier’s uniforms.
