When I designed this shawl, I needed comforting and restorative knitting. In general, knitting is something soothing in my life that provides peace and calmness for me. All of my knitting is comforting, but repetitive, easily-memorized, squishy-texture knits really restore me. This particular shawl was restorative to me; it became my comfort zone during a busy season of my life.

A friend suggested naming this shawl Comfort Zone because she said fingering weight yarn and mohair is her “comfort zone.” I immediately knew it was the perfect name for this design. I hope that this knitting project can be your comfort zone for a time and space in your life when you need it.

Comfort Zone is triangle-shaped shawl that is cozy to wear and knit. For the shawl featured in pictures, I knit two different versions. One version uses a DK weight yarn base (Farm Twist) from Madelinetosh. I used two skeins of the squishy Farm Twist base. Another version I used a slub, fingering yarn paired with a mohair (a Duet from Chelsea Yarns). With any fingering and lace-weight held double, you will create a beautiful garter texture with eyelet holes dispersed for some interest.
You begin at the corner of a triangle and finish at the longest edge, creating a triangle on the bias. Feel free to substitute the mohair with a different fuzzy fiber or get creative with different weights of yarn or have fun with some DK skeins. Enjoy the comfort that knitting brings.

This shawl is part of the Madtosh Love Community Fund. As part of that, there are kits where 10% of the sales go to a charity. Check it out here:

The charity for the Comfort Zone kids is Black Mountain Yarn Shop, a beautiful LYS affected by the recent Hurricane Helene.
