This hat pattern is named after the Lana Gatto Lancaster yarn which has fun bright bits of tweediness that remind us of confetti. The hat starts with a provisional cast-on of your choice, and a hem that is doubled and knitted together for extra warmth over your ears. It works up quickly in the round on size 8 US needles.

Lancaster has a generous amount of yarn, and we were able to make 2 hats out of one ball of yarn, by knitting each to a depth of 6” before starting the decreases. ( We actually knit the first hat to 6 1/2” and the second to 6”, but you’ll be playing yarn chicken if you do that…we ended with about 12” of yarn at the end.)

We used 1 skein of Lana Gatto Lancaster in color # 8815 for our sample and size 8 US (5mm) needles. You’ll need two circular needles (one 16” for knitting the hat, one any length to hold the stitches from the provisional cast on) as well as a set of 5 double pointed needles. You’ll also need 4 stitch markers to mark beginning of round and decreases, one a different color from the other three.

We hope you enjoy this Warm Ewe pattern. If you have any questions or find an error, please feel free to contact us at thewarmewe@gmail.com.
