This pattern combines satisfying colorwork with some fun design features such as braids. Designed to be fitted and dense for warm outdoor use, the pattern also includes instructions for a looser, more flexible fit and a mens size.

Designed with Uist Wool DK but would work well with most dk weight yarns, particularly those with a more rustic, hard wearing finish.

Techniques include: stranded color work, knitting in the round, vikkel braids, basic shaping, working from charts

Materials
approximately 70g dk weight yarn. The yarn used in the pattern is from Uist Wool, in colorways Breathach DK and Tír DK

Gauge
0sts & 0 rows = 4”/10cm in stockinette after blocking, using size 2/ 2.75mm needles

Needles
Size US 2 / 2.75mm set of double pointed needles or circular if using magic loop method.

Additional Tools
Scrap yarn, needle for seaming

Construction Overview
• The mittens are made from the wrist up in the round to the thumb. After setting aside stitches for the thumb, the mitten is once again worked in the round until bind off at the fingertips.
• The thumb sts are picked up and worked in the round
• The mittens are wet blocked after completion.

Sizing
The pattern is designed (and the chart is written) for the average women’s hand- which is really not all of us at all! Please read through the dimensions below and make your adjustments accordingly. Using the US 2 / 2.75mm needles creates a dense, more hard wearing mitten. Sizing up to a US 5/3.75mm needle makes a larger mitten with greater ease in the fabric- it is the recommended needle size for the yarn. The largest option is appropriate for most men- the chart should be used as a guide rather than followed exactly for this size (note this size includes modification instructions NOT an additional chart).
