This cosy sheep themed cowl will not only draw admiring glances, but also keep you nice and snug in the cooler weather. The colours can be changed to the recipient’s favourite!

Size: 70.5cm/27.75in circumference when buttoned, 18cm/7in high. You can easily change the length (circumference) by adding or taking away a pattern repeat.

This cowl is knit using the double knitting technique, the finished piece is double sided and double thickness, a bit like two separate pieces being sewn together back to back. Stocking/stockinette stitch is uppermost on both sides with the colours reversed on the ‘wrong side’; although there is no wrong side, you end up with two right sides!

This detailed pattern is 6 pages long and includes comprehensive written instructions, charts and photographs (the last page includes the abbreviations and gives notes and tips on the double knitting technique so you may not need to print this page).
If you are new to double knitting you should be able to give it a go!

The sheep motifs could also be used in a garment using the stranded knitting (Fair Isle) technique.
