This design, in the national colors of Ukraine, is a personal response to the horror of the war in that country. This piece can be finished either as a scarf or as a cowl, and directions are given for both versions. The stitch design of this two-color cowl is easily memorized, producing a fabric that is soft, non-rolling, and essentially reversible. The design is written, not charted, and is an easy introduction to intarsia (color block) knitting. It’s very good for social knitting, and is suitable for an advanced beginner. The pattern is written, not charted.

We have seen the daily viciousness of Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the almost unbelievable suffering of the Ukrainian people, and like many people I have wondered what I can do to help. So beginning from February 24, the date of the invasion, all sales from my shop will be donated to Medicines Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) and their work in Ukraine. The Russians have targeted medical facilities there.
From their website: “MSF has a longstanding presence in Ukraine, including in parts of the eastern region that have been affected by armed conflict since 2014… MSF staff in Ukraine are delivering urgent medical supplies, training health workers on managing mass casualty incidents, running mobile clinics, and organizing medical evacuations of hospitalized patients from the east to the west of the country.”
