Knit densely on smaller-than-usual needles, the cabled brim of this hat also has a facing, making sure that the ears are really warm and well protected! Add in a yarn with alpaca in it, and there’s no way to be cold in this hat!

Using a provisional cast-on, the cable band is worked along with its facing horizontally, then joined end-to-end (with either Kitchener stitch or 3-needle bind-off) to create the brim. The facing is then folded inside the brim, and stitches picked up to work the top of the hat in the round. Note that the cable design is only available in chart form.
