Use up those single skeins of worsted weight yarn you have, or use scraps when creating a striped version.
Embellish with appliques if desired.

We would recommend using a washable fiber if you will be using the hot water bottle for someone who is ill. My cat also loves to sit on one when they day is cold, so we find it necessary to wash that cover as well.

The pattern also calls for a strip on sew-on Velcro for the closure at the bottom. You could also close it with buttons or snaps if you have those on hand. I do not have instructions for doing either of those on the blog.
