This is a mini-version of the ever so lovely, cuddly “Covey” cowl pattern (also included in this download).

So, this pattern includes both Covey Mini and the original Covey pattern.

The original Covey requires 785 yards of sport or DK weight yarn, whereas Covey Mini requires only 1/3 of that which means you could use one ball of Madeline Tosh Sport rather than three.

The original Covey is a convertible cowl that may be pulled up over the head as a hood while still being worn as a cowl, or even pulled down over the shoulders while also being worn as a cowl and a hood … there is that much fabric to the original design. Covey Mini is strictly a cowl.

I knit my Covey Mini using Madeline Tosh Sport in the “Antique Lace” colorway, a beautiful neutral color that may be worn with many different outfits.

As with the original Covey, a good substitute yarn would be Valley Yarns Superwash DK 100% Extra Fine Merino; each 50-gram ball has 137 yards, which is a very close match to the Madeline Tosh. If you choose this substitute yarn, you will need two balls because Covey Mini requires 270 yards.
