This easy knitted cowl/scarf works up quickly in Super Bulky yarn and US Size 17 needles.

This scarf is a great beginner project but offers interest for seasoned knitters and makes a wonderful gift.

I am including both Quick Work Instructions (for seasoned knitters) as well as Detailed Instructions (for new knitters).

This scarf is a comfort to knit and comfortable to wear. It can be worn long under a coat for warmth, doubled as a cowl, or pull it up over your ears as a hood.

Yarn: Malabrigo Caracol Super Bulky (100% Merino superwash - 2 Balls (Approx. 95 yards, 150 grams/ball). Pictured here in color # 809 Solis.

NOTE: Any super bulky yarn will work for this pattern but I love the color and detail of Malabrigo Caracol yarn. The addition of the black thread entwining the saturated color offers a beauty not found in other yarns. The yarn is cloud soft and buoyant but it does not add “bulk” to the person wearing it! The thick and thin nature of this yarn adds texture and character to the finished product.

Needles: Size US 17 – 12.75mm 29” circular (or size needed to obtain gauge)

Gauge: approx. ½” per stitch, 12 rows = 4” in pattern. This cowl is not “fitted” so a small departure of gauge will not adversely affect the finished scarf.
