Here in Oregon where I live nearly everyone has a pair of rubber boots for rainy day walking about or doing yard work. These slippers are ideal for keeping feet warm inside them and they can be worn over other socks. They’re also great for keeping feet cozy when curling up with a good book, a bowl of popcorn and a movie, or with your latest knitting project!
These slippers, for men or women, are worked flat, sewn up and then a cuff is added by picking up stitches around the ankle. The cuff can be worked with either Magic Loop or DPN. Picking up the stitches with a crochet hook is described within the pattern.
It is an easy level project that requires about 200 yards of chunky weight, level 5, yarn. You can also use worsted weight if you hold two strands together. A wool with acrylic blend works well. I’ve made dozens of pairs for my family members and myself over the years and have used a wide range of fiber and thus have listed a number of suggested products.
Skills required for successful completion include knit, purl, pick up stitches, knitting in the round, knit two together, purl two together and sewing a simple seam.
Size 8 US needles and a gauge of 5 stitches per inch are recommended.
The height of the cuff can go as far up the leg as you wish given the yarn you have available. They can be adjusted to fit any size adult foot.
The pattern has several illustrations and some tips for making your knitting experience more pleasant.
These slippers work up quickly and make fast, easy Christmas gifts. Feel free to knit these up and sell them at your local craft fair or non-profit fund raising event!
