A simple crescent-shaped shawl – with soothing sections of garter stitch and some colour play to lift the soul. Perfect for mindless knitting when you need to retreat from the pressures of the world.
For each pattern sold I will make a £1 donation to a UK Mental Health Charity. We all know someone who struggles and this design is not only to recognise we have no idea what’s going on under the surface but to give some solace and balm to your own crafty projects.

Variations:
Variation 1 – this makes use of ‘colour-melting’ (alternating two colours) and has a more tonal effect and requires a greater quantity of CC2 and less of the main colour (handy for using up partial skeins!)
Cartref 4-ply - Comprising approximately 67% Welsh Mule and 33% Welsh Bluefaced Leicester, this is a true non-superwash 4ply weight yarn. It is bouncy and has a lovely hand, but also feels substantial and warm. 100g is approximately 361metres/395yards

  • Main Colour – Glo (Coal) - Approx 70g (253m/277yds)
  • Contrast Colour 1 – Saffir (Saphire) – Approx 30g (108m/120yds)
  • Contrast Colour 2 - Naturiol (Natural) – Approx 20g (72m/80yds)

Variation 2 - there is no colour-melting here so there is a starker contrast between the lines and segments. This makes use of approx. 100g skein of 4ply and 2 x 20g minis.
Charlie Button Yarns – Lancashire Brew 4-ply. Undyed Jacob and Hebredean yarn that makes the most of the beautiful natural tones of the sheep. It is excellent for colourwork and has a springy light finish. 100g is approximately 280metres/306 yards

  • Main Colour – Jacob Brown – Approx 100g (280ms/306 yds)
  • Contrast Colour 1 – Hebredean Grey – Approx 20g (56ms/61 yds)
  • Contrast Colour 2 – Jacob Cream - Approx 20g (56ms/61 yds)

Pattern Notes/ Size Adjustments:
Although designed with the yarns referenced above this is an extremely flexible pattern and can work with any 4-ply yarns or even slightly heavier yarns than 4-ply but be aware you’ll get a larger shawl and different yardage requirements. It’s also perfect for showing off precious bits of hand-spun.
