Travel back in time with this quick, cozy, classic staple! Knit entirely in garter stitch and a worsted/aran yarn, this capelet works up fast and compliments almost any outfit. I designed this capelet after being inspired by the timeless beauty of the Outlander costumes, and was particularly intrigued by the capelets Claire and Brianna wear. One thing I didn’t anticipate is how wearable and cozy this style of accessory truly is. It adds just the right amount of warmth and rustic charm, especially knit in a non-superwash wool and neutral colors. Alternatively, knit it in one color, or hold a brushed alpaca or mohair with DK to create a more luxurious capelet. All that’s left is to create your own perfect time-traveling accessory.

About the photos and models: My sister and I had a fun time creating a time-traveling effect, like Claire returning to the stones after several years. The location was a nature trail during a thunderstorm.

Yarn:
400 yds or more of Worsted or Aran Yarn Original uses 200 yds of MC and 200 yds of CC

Suggested Yarn:
To achieve the time-traveling, rustic look, use a non-superwash yarn, although this will look lovely knit in any worsted/aran. For a luxury alternative, use a DK held with a strand of brushed alpaca or mohair. Sample is knit using a Bumblebee Acres Farm’s Noir de Thibar Limited Worsted- a 2 ply non-superwash, 2 ply wool yarn- in colors CC: Glen and MC: Natural. This breed of wool has good bounce, memory, and a subtle sheen. BFL, Corriedale, Border Leicester, or Shetland would make a nice substitute.
