This hat takes just 1 skein of Bulky Weight yarn in the “Wizard Island” color hand-dyed by my husband and I at Kristen in Stitches HQ in Reno, NV. Purchase the Wizard Island yarn here.

This hat is an homage to my old stomping grounds, Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. I grew up in near Crater Lake, in southern Oregon, and visited the park often. Anytime friends or family came to visit us from other parts of the country, we’d take them to Crater Lake! It’s just such a beautiful place to visit!

I designed this month’s color to capture the gorgeous blue colors of Crater Lake with subtle pops of light silver gray, sandy brown, and a sprinkling of green for the forests that surround the lake. The color is aptly named “Wizard Island” after the iconic island in the middle of the lake.

The hat design itself features a simple slipped stitch pattern that swirl’s around the body of the hat showing off the color beautifully. I’ve topped my version with an optional pom pom, for a little added winter flair. I hope you enjoy knitting this one, it’s a quick and easy project!
