When I first saw an example of the knitted crosses, I was intrigued by their beauty and simplicity. I wanted to try them out to see what they could do. This simple scarf is primarily knits and purls. The Indian Cross rows make a nice detail in the stripe pattern. It looks complicated, but is easy to master. You can make the scarf from any weight yarn and size needle, depending on the look you want to achieve.

The pattern includes directions for turning the flat scarf into an infinity scarf.

For my samples, I worked one end of the natural color scarf in Lion Brand “Fisherman’s Wool” and the other end in Cascade 220, both on US size 8 (5.0 mm) needles. I think the Cascade shows the details better since it’s not as fuzzy as the pure virgin wool of the Lion Brand.

The smaller green sample is in sock weight yarn on US size 3 (3.25 mm) needles. I really like how delicate the crosses look on the lighter-weight yarn.

The sample infinity version is knit with Lion Brand’s Martha Stewart Crafts extra soft wool blend on US size 7 (4.5 mm) needles.

Yarn requirements will vary according to the yarn and needles you choose.
